Thematic Work Packages
CapHaz-Net looks back on meanwhile some 70 years of social science research on natural hazards. In that time a rich field of theoretical perspectives, empirical findings and policy-relevant insights developed upon which CapHaz-Net builds. We have identified specific, well established topics we concentrate on during the first project phase (until mid-2010).
CapHaz-Net topics
The major benefit made by CapHaz-Net will be to overcome the present fragmentation of these research approaches and related practices and to come to an integrative perspective. There is a real need for a concerted, multidisciplinary examination of social capacity building toward more resilient societies in Europe, there is a need for sharing knowledge and experience and bringing together different perspectives (social sciences, practitioners, policy-makers, natural scientists) within an integrated framework that promotes social learning.
